Both exist, and we show it explicitly on each card and in the "Coverage" section rather than assuming. Paid internships are common at companies and larger NGOs; research and public-sector internships (UN agencies, some university labs) are more often unpaid or stipend-only. If pay isn't stated in the listing, the official link's own posting is the place to confirm before you apply.

Generally no — internships exist specifically for students and recent graduates without full-time experience yet. What most postings do ask for is relevant coursework, a personal project, or a demonstrated interest in the field (a portfolio, GitHub repo, or research sample), which matters more to reviewers than a formal job history.

Many can, but visa sponsorship varies a lot by country and by employer size — large multinational companies are more likely to sponsor a short-term work/training visa than a small local organization. Remote internships sidestep this entirely. Check the listing's requirements for citizenship or visa restrictions before investing time in an application; we surface this whenever the official posting states it.

For competitive internship programs at large organizations, expect 4–8 weeks from application to a final decision, often including one or two interview rounds. Smaller organizations and rolling-basis internships can move much faster — sometimes under two weeks. If a deadline listed here is months away, that's usually the program's fixed intake date, not a sign you should wait to apply.

A legitimate internship never charges you a "placement fee," "training deposit," or asks for payment to "confirm your seat." These are the most common internship scam patterns, particularly for remote and study-abroad-adjacent programs. If an official-looking offer asks for money before you start, verify it directly with the organization through their main published contact — not the email address on the offer itself.

That depends entirely on your university's or country's own policy, not on the internship provider — some universities only accept in-person or hybrid placements for credit, and remote internships generally don't qualify you for a work-visa category the way an in-person placement might. Confirm with your academic advisor or immigration office before assuming a remote offer meets a specific requirement you have.
